Are you among the millions of people who suffer with sweating problems? It is estimated that between 2-3% of our population deals with this very issue.

Causes of excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, can be tough to pinpoint. It takes a little time and detective work so to speak, but once you find the root cause, treatments are available. Let's look at the causes of excessive sweating and some of the top remedies.

Discovering what is behind hyperhidrosis is your first step. You'll want to find out if it's being caused by being overweight, possible nerve damage, menopause or other metabolic issue. For many people, one of the bigger medical causes of excessive sweating is an overactive thyroid gland. Prescription medicines may also be behind the cause as well.

Next, figure out if the sweating problems are all over your body, or only in certain areas, known as "focalized". This means it would be in specific areas such as your feet, face, underarms, etc. The most common area of focal hyperhidrosis is underarms.

How to stop hyperhidrosis.

There are several options in answering the question of how to stop hyperhidrosis.

1. Stronger antiperspirants are most commonly recommended. Applying them to your palms or underarms will cure the problem in many cases. There are also stronger prescription antiperspirants available that your doctor or health care provider can prescribe. These antiperspirants work, but the side effects can include severe skin irritation.

2. A relatively new treatment called iontophoresis is another option to prevent excessive sweating. It uses torch battery electricity to essentially shut down the sweat glands in the area that is sweating.

3. Another way to control excessive sweating is through botox. This new procedure involves injections that prevent the release of the body's chemical that turns on your sweat glands.

Botox has shown to be an effective way to prevent excessive sweating for a period of around 6 months. You would need to have it done again after that to continue to experience the results.

Botox should be included with your health insurance coverage, so it's an affordable option for more people.

4. As a last resort, surgery is available to remove the nerves that lead to the sweat glands. While this type of surgery use to be the only remedy years ago, it is not as common today.

If you suffer from sweating problems there are many treatment options available in curing the disorder. It's not something you just have to live with.

Everyone seeks to have beautiful facial skin and excessive sweating and facial oiliness can get in the way. But not everyone has this, special care has to be taken to keep facial skin healthy and beautiful. One of the biggest problems that many encounter is facial oiliness. Nature has given skin a natural ability to replenish itself. Skin has sebaceous glands, which release oil periodically. This oil lubricates the skin and prevents the skin from drying. This oil also reduces down the occurrence of wrinkles. But in some people oil is produced so excessively that it results in acne. There are several factors that contribute to the excessive production of oil. Excessive oiliness could be hereditary, may be caused because of pregnancy and also due to excessive perspiration.

Excessive sweating and facial oiliness is one of the disorders that are hard to deal with. Until now it was not understood why perspiration in excess came from. But finally it is understood that the primary cause for excessive perspiration is genetic disorder. Excessive perspiration is also caused due to obesity, menopause, hyperthyroidism and psychiatric disorders. Depending on the cause of excessive perspiration, it is classified in to two categories Primary Hyperhidrosis and Secondary Hyperhidrosis. Primary Hyperhidrosis is the case where in excessive perspiration of hands and sole of foot takes place, but the cause of it is unknown. Secondary Hyperhidrosis is the case where in excessive perspiration takes place because of some health disorder. Some of these disorders include AIDS, Cancer, certain medications. In this case excessive sweating and facial oiliness may occur.

Usually excessive perspiration takes place in hands and the soles of the foot, because of higher concentration of apocrine and eccrine glands. Under rare circumstances facial skin and armpit regions are also affected. Excessive perspiration on facial skin makes victims feel embarrassed. In this case sweating takes place on the face and scalp. Sweat runs through the face like water continuously. Usually this is considered as a genetic disorder. People with excessive sweating cannot apply make up nor do they prefer to go out doors. Excessive perspiration on facial skin makes it appear oilier. Usually oiliness on the skin is good to some extent but in excess it is harmful. Excessive perspiration of facial skin further deteriorates the situation. It increases the acne on the skin there by resulting unhealthy and awkward looking skin. This problem also develops inferiority complex among the victims. So, they become more and more introvert and after a while it may also result in some psychological disorder.

There are some solutions to overcome these problems, but nothing is perfect. For the prevention of excessive sweating two methods are available, one is surgical and the other is non surgical methods. One of the surgical treatments is sympathectomy. In this method pair of sympathetic nerves that are responsible for production of sweating are cut down at specific positions. Depending on the position where the nerve has been cut down perspiration in a region can be controlled. But the complication associated with it is sweating in excess takes place. For example if sweating on facial skin is controlled by this method then excessive sweating may take place under the breast or on the back.

There are some non surgical treatments available for controlling excessive facial perspiration. They include anti perspirants containing aluminum chloride, oral medications. For control of excessive facial sweating oral medications are usually preferred. Several facial gels are also available in the market. This gel has to be applied on the face as a thin coat. This gel is primarily composed of anti perspirant. One other way to get relieved from excessive oiliness caused by excessive perspiration is by washing face regularly.

If you suffer from excessive sweating and facial oiliness then it is high time you went to the doctor to find out what is best for you.

Treatment for Excessive Sweating - My Grandmother's Home-Made Treatment for Excessive Sweating

My grandmother has her own ways of dealing with daily medical conditions and illnesses. Although at times these home-made remedies can be seem backward compared to modern science and medicine, these treatments work wonders for her grandchildren.

Allow me to share with you a particular treatment for excessive sweating which she used on us when we were much younger. It involves using black tea as the main substance to help us eliminate sweat odor and reduce our excessive sweating.

There was one period of time when my brother was complaining about having heat rash due to his excessive sweating problems. My grandmother then would make him bathed the affected areas with strongly brewed black tea everyday. Of course, you would not want to put sugar into the brew.

She also made my brother soak his sweaty palms in a bowl of strongly brewed, cooled, black tea for about two to four minutes. Being the mischievous one, he would soak it for more than ten minutes, and came out grinning with brown hands!

After a few days, my brother’s heat rash slowly disappeared and all was back to normal.

My smelly feet were not spared either. She would insist that I soak my feet into a pail of lukewarm black tea for about 20 minutes. The smelly feet odor was greatly reduced after a few days. Of course, washing the socks was another different approach altogether.

Besides using black tea as a natural treatment for excessive sweating, she also made us drink hot brewing black tea for its health benefits. In fact drinking black tea can help reverse the abnormal functioning of the blood vessels that can contribute to stroke or heart attack. Studies done at Boston’s School of Medicine also showed that there was improvement in the functioning of the blood vessels within two hours of drinking just one cup of black tea.

Black tea is also a good treatment for excessive sweating problems as it helps to bring our stress hormone levels back to normal. According to a study done at University College of London, drinking black tea may speed up our recovery from the daily stresses in life. This may help us to reduce anxiety and indirectly help to overcome our excessive sweating problems.
